Preface: On Sunday, September 21, 2008, my friend drove to Skyline Boulevard and Highway 9 to Vista Point. There we entered Gate LR14 and explored a dusty "No-Name Trail" to the left that had lots of fallen leaves. There were few scenic sights except for some cirrus clouds that looked like sun flares. Finally we turned back and hiked on the Skyline to the Sea Trail. This led to the open Highway 9 where I took photos of spectacular cirrus ghost clouds. The hike on the Red Mountain Trail led to a giant 200 year old Douglas Fir plus some giant California Live Oaks. At the end of this trail were lots of fallen red leaf maples to walk through— crunch, crunch, crunch! The short Nutmeg Trail led us back to Highway 9 where we returned on the Summit Meadow Trail. Here we encountered some interesting plants and a beautiful madrone tree with its red bark peeling off to its cool bare bark. While returning home, we stopped by the Grizzly Flat Entrance of Long Ridge to photograph a lovely sunset on Skyline Boulevard.
